FOR STARTERS: NJCU seeks to win its first NJAC match and snap a two-match losing streak. Kean is seeking to move back above .500 and to remain in second place in the conference.

THE SERIES vs. KEAN: Kean leads the all-time series, 31-7.

LAST MEETING: October 17, 2013 in Union, NJ. Kean swept NJCU (25-2, 25-21, 25-12) while hitting .479 as a team.  Collectively, the Cougars smashed 41 kills with just six errors in 73 attacks. Kaitlyn Hansen put away 24 kills and hit .571 with only four errors out of 35 attempts. Jade Medley was the top player for NJCU offensively hitting .667 with six kills and no errors on nine attempts. 2014 graduate Cindy Garcia had a nice effort with four aces and seven digs.

PLAYING WITH CHEMISTRY:  The Gothic Knights have won three of their last five matches, defeating Cedar Crest (3-2), Centenary College (3-1), and Farmingdale State (3-1).  The next three matches will all come against conference opponents.

KEAN’S PETERSON 1 SHY:  Senior outside hitter, Aysia Peterson is one kill shy of 1,000 for her career. There are only five other Cougars with 1,000 career kills. This list includes Loretta Zahn (1,523), Jennifer Bronowich (1,240), Juliet Fidrych (1,204), Elizabeth Bauer (1,143), and Kaitlyn Hansen (1,088). Peterson comes into today’s match second on the team in kills per set with 2.74 behind Kassie Hernandez’s 3.34.

ABOUT KEAN: The Cougars have won five of the last six matches including a pair of wins over conference foes, William Paterson and Ramapo. They come into the match tonight with an overall record of 11-11 and a 3-1 NJAC record, and seek to move back over .500. The Cougars, at 3-1 in the NJAC, are tied for second in the league with Ramapo, whom they own a head-to-head win against.

DEGROOT of the PROBLEM: Kean junior defensive specialist Lisa DeGroot is this week’s NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.65 digs per set in a 4-1 week for the Cougars. She has won the award twice in the last three weeks. It was the third time she has captured the honor in two years. Alana Aranjo was the NJAC Player of the Week selection in week two. Aranjo leads the NJAC in assists per set (8.68).

1000-POINT MEDLEY: Jade Medley reached a historical plateau on October 7, becoming the sixth Gothic Knight to register 1,000 career points.  She is entering today’s match with 1029.5 career points—878 kills, 11 service aces, 104 solo blocks and 73 assisted blocks. She is fifth in school history in kills and needs 122 more in 13 matches to become the fourth player with 1,000 career kills.

MCINWINNER: Rachel McIntyre was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for week six of the 2014 season on October 7. She is the first Gothic Knight to take home the award in eight seasons. McIntyre, a 5-foot-7 double major in Criminal Justice and Creative Writing, is the first NJCU player named NJAC Rookie of the Week since Alex Johanesen, also a setter, took home the honor in weeks one and three of the 2007 campaign. McIntyre had posted four double-doubles this year. She attends the University on a full Presidential academic scholarship.

DOUBLE DIGIT MIDDLES: Both of NJCU’s middles, Jade Medley and Shege Haxhaj have reached double figures in kills multiple times in their career. Medley has reached double digits in kills 35 times in her career and 10 times this season. Haxhaj has accomplished the feat five times this year and 10 times as a collegian.
